Council has ownership of a number of land parcels across the Ballina Shire. Council also has the responsibility for the care, control and management of various Crown land parcels. Use Council's online mapping tool to find details of land parcels contained in Council’s Land Register.
Council has the care, control and management responsibility for the following categories of land:
Land owned by Ballina Shire Council may be classified as “community land” in accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993. Community land is for general public use and includes land such as a public parks.
Land owned by Ballina Shire Council may be classified as “operational land” in accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993. Operational land serves a variety of purposes that relate to Council carrying out its functions.
There are a number of Crown reserves where Ballina Shire Council has been appointed crown land manager. Council has management responsibility for such land in accordance with the requirements of the Crown Land Management Act 2016. Please refer to our Council Documents page for current plans of management.
Council has management responsibility for certain Crown reserves as specified in section 48 of the Local Government Act 1993. These reserves are said to be “devolved” to Council.
Council has management responsibility for several parcels of Crown land as leaseholder.
