Adopted in 2012, the BSLGMS provided a framework for managing population and employment growth in Ballina Shire from 2012- 2031. It has since been superseded by the Ballina Shire Local Strategic Planning Statement.

The BSLSPS 2020-2040 plans for the Ballina community’s economic, social, environmental and leadership needs from a strategic land use planning perspective in the 20 year period to 2040. The BSLSPS sets action timeframes in which to deliver strategic land use priorities.

Ballina Shire Biodiversity Strategy 2023-2033
The Ballina Shire Biodiversity Strategy was adopted in June 2023. The strategy seeks to promote understanding of the biodiversity values of Ballina Shire and set out actions that contribute to conserving and enhancing biodiversity in the Shire for future generations.

Ballina Shire Housing Strategy 2024
The Ballina Shire Housing Strategy was adopted in May 2024. The Strategy outlines Council’s role in addressing local housing challenges over the next 20 years. This includes working in partnership with key stakeholders, taking a lead role in advocacy initiatives and ensuring planning controls contribute to appropriate housing outcomes reflective of the community’s needs.
