The Salvage Shed - Ballina Tip Shop

SShedstaff.pngCouncil now runs the Ballina Salvage Shed (the Tip Shop), after Momentum Collective entered voluntary administration on 28 February 2026. The Salvage Shed diverts over 350 tonnes of preloved goods from landfill each year – supporting a local circular economy, affordable goods for our community and a space for community connection.

New opening hours are:

Tuesday to Friday 8.30am - 3.30pm / Saturday and Sunday 10am - 3pm (except public holidays)

Enquires: To contact the Salvage Shed, call 02 6686 1215 or email salvageshed@ballina.nsw.gov.au

Location: The Salvage Shed is still located at 169 Southern Cross Drive, Ballina (next to the Ballina Resource Recovery Centre)

Why do I have to pay to dispose of some salvageable items if Council is going to sell them?

Items declared to the weighbridge for salvage and verified suitable for resale are charged a reduced disposal fee - the household recycling fee. There is no guarantee items will sell, like with any secondhand shop. If not sold, Council must cover disposal costs.

What items are free to bring to the Resource Recovery Centre (tip)?

Many items are free to bring to the Resource Recovery Centre:

  • Scrap metal (metal items, power tools, household & kitchen appliances)
  • E-waste (TVs and accessories, stereo equipment, computers & accessories)
  • Items with embedded batteries (e-bikes, e-scooters)

How else can I get rid of unwanted items?

We encourage donating quality, sellable items to one of Ballina Shire’s many op shops before coming to the Resource Recovery Centre, where charges will apply.

There are many options available to keep unwanted items out of landfill. See our tips for getting rid of unwanted items and responsible donating here.

What else is different about the Salvage Shed?

  • The Salvage Shed can ‘test and tag’ electrical items, which not every op shop can do. This keeps customers informed on the state and safety of appliances, tools and lighting for sale.
  • Council is operating the Salvage Shed on a cost-neutral model, and is intending only to cover its own costs, not make a profit.

Did you know you can purchase home compost bins or kitchen caddies from the Salvage Shed?

  • Home compost bins (220L Gedye bin or similar) are $50 to collect in store, or $60 delivery.  compost bin.jpeg
