Emigrant Creek Bank Rehabilitation Project
Ballina Shire Council has been successful in obtaining joint funding from the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage (OEH) to undertake an environmental restoration project at Emigrant Creek, Tintenbar.
The project will include riverbank stabilisation and rehabilitation works on publicly owned land adjoining Emigrant Creek between Tintenbar Road and the Old Bangalow Road/Tamarind Drive intersection.
The aims of the project will be to stabilise the creek bank, remove/treat weed species, plant native endemic vegetation, improve water quality and aquatic and terrestrial fauna habitat.
The works and maintenance will be undertaken over a three year period and will commence once all the relevant approvals are in place, hopefully by mid 2019.
The project Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) has been developed in consultation with the local community and will guide the works.
Quotes have been obtained from vegetation regeneration consultants to undertake the VMP works in a staged approach across the project area. On ground works have commenced along Crosbys Lane with limited Camphor Laurel removal to follow in both Crosbys Lane and Old Bangalow Road. Following which revegetation works along Old Bangalow Road will commence.
