Active Ageing Plan

Ballina Shire’s population, like much of Australia’s, is changing; our population is getting older.

The ageing of the population is a positive social trend and it is an indication that we are living longer, healthier lives.

However, research tell us that issues such as social isolation and lack of physical activity have an adverse impact on an individual’s overall health and, if not addressed, can cause people to develop a range of illnesses that affect their physical and mental wellbeing.

Ballina Shire Council has developed an Active Ageing Plan to help recognise what is needed to prepare for an ageing population. This document was developed with input and consultation with services associated with older people, local residents and key stakeholders.
