Proposed Ballina Ocean Pool
The proposed Ballina Ocean Pool (between Lighthouse Beach and Shelly Beach in East Ballina) is being progressed by community group, the Ballina Ocean Pool Committee Inc.
To support their efforts to have an ocean pool constructed, Council has endorsed this incorporated organisation, which consists of community volunteers, as a committee of Council, as it provides a simpler planning approval path, if the project proceeds.
The current position of the elected Council in respect to the ocean pool is as follows:
- The Committee is to be set up on the basis that the ocean pool will be constructed through funding sources other than Council, and the pool is to be designed to ensure that nil, or minimal maintenance, is required for the facility on an on-going basis.
This means Council has resolved not to provide funding to support the project, although this can be amended by a future Council resolution.
The Ballina Ocean Pool Committee Inc has successfully received a $50,000 grant from the State Government to help finance the various environmental and engineering reports that need to be completed prior to a planning application being lodged with Council.
An update of this project was provided to Council at the 23 May 2019 Ordinary meeting, to view this update download the following agenda and attachments:
