Council seeking feedback on plan to manage community land

Ballina Shire Council is encouraging the community to have their say on the draft Ballina Shire Plan of Management for Community Land 2021 (POM).

The POM provides a framework for how recreational and open space resources managed by Council, such as parks, natural areas, sporting fields and community/cultural facilities can be used by the public.

This draft POM will replace the existing Ballina Shire Plan of Management for Community Land 2015 and has been prepared in response to legislative reform that requires councils to now incorporate dedicated or reserved Crown land (where Council is the land manager) into a Plan of Management. The existing POM 2015 incorporates only Community Land owned by Council.

This means all public land (Council owned land and Crown land managed by Council) classified as Community Land will be managed under a single plan (aside from land within the Ballina Coastal Reserve).

“It’s important that our community is engaged with this process and that they provide their feedback,” said Council’s Manager of Strategic Planning, Tara McGready.

The draft plan is now on public exhibition and submissions close Wednesday 7 April 2021.

Council staff will be available to discuss the draft POM either by phone or in person at Council’s Customer Service Centre. Thirty-minute appointments are available from 1pm to 4pm Wednesdays to Fridays during the exhibition period. To make an appointment please contact Fiona King in Council’s Strategic Planning Section at least 24-hours in advance on 1300 864 444.

The draft Ballina Shire Plan of Management for Community Land 2021 can be viewed on Council’s website at ballina.nsw.gov.au/ExhibitionDocuments
