Stage 2 - Playground construction

Ballina Shire Council has secured $1.4 million from the NSW Government to help fund the construction of the next stage of the playground at Pop Denison Park.

The second stage will further expand the playground area to include larger and more challenging equipment and features to cater for a wider range of ages and abilities. 

Features include:

• A double 25m-long flying fox
• Three tower treehouse structure with linking raised walkways and slide
• Pendulum basket swing
• Tunnel climbing feature
• Inclusive all access carousel
• Sphere climber
• Additional BBQs, picnic shelters and path network
• Additional landscaping, nature play features and shade trees.

The existing playground will remain open throughout construction of the second stage; however site fencing will be required along the southern section of the existing loop path to secure the construction site. 

The contractors’ site establishment and construction vehicle movements will be considerate of residents and minimise any impacts to existing community access to the park outside the construction area.  Appropriate traffic management will be implemented when needed to ensure safety at the site while works are being carried out.

The second stage of the playground construction is anticipated to be completed by December 2023 (weather and site conditions permitting).

Stage 1- Junior Playground

The new junior playground at Pop Denison Park is officially open and ready to explore!

The junior playground area is the first stage of a new regional-level playground planned for the site through the Pop Denison Park Master Plan. The new playground is inclusive, nature and adventure play based.

The play equipment includes:

• Multiple swing sets with inclusive access including boat, basket, and hammock swings
• Mound slide,
• Monkey bars
• Treehouse play fort
• 4x4 rocker
• Fairy-tale ship
• Spinning orb.

The playground has been integrated into the site’s natural landscape with the creation of nature play and adventure play elements that include nature trails through the gardens, a dry creek bed, balance beams, log steppers, bridge crossing, stepping stones and edging to encourage social play and skills development.

Scooter riders will love the new concrete loop path, while parents can sit back and relax, taking their pick from the turfed lawns with shade trees, new seating, or picnic shelters and facilities.

The junior playground works cost $1.3 million, including grant funding of $252,000 provided through the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Community Fund.
