Ballina Shire Council has started work to construct a new junior playground at Pop Denison Park.
This upgrade will bring to life the junior playground area of the Pop Denison Park Master Plan, which aims to transform the park into a recreational area of regional standing.
The new playground will be inclusive, nature and adventure play based to challenge and entertain children with:
The junior playground works are anticipated to cost $1.3 million. This includes grant funding of $252,000 through the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Community Fund.
The existing playground will be closed for the duration of the works. Please visit ballina.nsw.gov.au/playgrounds to find another playground near you.
A small section of the carpark off Compton Drive (near the toilet block) will be closed off to allow construction crews to access the site. Signage is in place advising locals and visitors.
Early works will include pruning vegetation in preparation for the new nature trail, demolition and removal of the old play equipment, followed by excavation and drainage works.
The junior playground works are expected to be completed by the end of December 2021 (weather and site conditions permitting).
Future stages identified in the Pop Denison Park Master Plan include a senior playground area that will include features such as a double skyrider, giant treehouse, carousel and mammoth swing. Additional car parking areas, paths, shelters and BBQ’s are also planned in accordance with the adopted master plan. Please note that the Master Plan provides a framework for planning and investment and that concepts included in the plan are indicative only.
