Registering your cat or dog is a requirement in NSW (under the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998). Follow these simple steps to register your cat or dog for life in NSW:
Use your Service NSW log in credentials to access petreg.nsw.gov.au and follow the steps to register and pay the fee and the annual permit fee (if applicable):
Register your pet online
If you are unable to pay online, you can come into Ballina Shire Council at 40 Cherry Street, Ballina. You must bring all paperwork showing proof of ownership, microchip number and desexing certificate supplied by vet and pay a registration fee.
If you have moved from interstate, use your Service NSW log in credentials to create a NSW Pet Registry profile at petreg.nsw.gov.au. If you are unable to pay online, provide Council with proof of ownership and papers with microchip details e.g. pedigree papers, registered club membership, desexing certificate or a vet can verify your microchip. A statutory declaration outlining the circumstances of the sale or proof of ownership may also be required.
All dogs, except working dogs must wear a collar or tag when they're outside your property. The tag needs to show the dog's name and owner's address or telephone number.
All cats must wear a collar around their neck with a name tag showing the cat's name and owner's address or telephone number when they're outside your property.
