As part of NSW Government’s Safer Roads Program, Ballina Shire Council are undertaking works at the intersection of Fox and Cherry Streets to improve motorist safety.
The current intersection arrangement has experienced a significant vehicle collision history at the site. The improvement works include the construction of a roundabout, underground water main works and the removal of trees in the vicinity.
The works will occur in stages, with stage one being the underground water main works, tree removal and construction of the eastern part of the roundabout. These works are planned to start the week commencing 20 July 2020.
The tree removal works include removal of one Paperbark tree (Melaleuca Quinquenervia) outside 2 Bangalow Road, and canopy and root pruning of one Paperbark tree (Melaleuca Quinquenervia) outside 42 Fox Street. These trees are listed on Council’s Significant Tree Register, and are subject to an Arboriculture Impact Assessment Report.
Included in the tree works are the removal of several Cocos Palms (Syragus romanzoffiana) outside 95 Cherry Street. The Cocos Palms are listed weed species and a biosecurity threat.
The proposed tree works are in accordance with Council’s Urban Vegetation of Public Land policy and the Australian Standard, Protection of Trees on Development Sites. Council will be engaging qualified personnel to undertake this work. Should you have any queries about the tree removal, please contact James Brideson on 1300 864 444.
It is anticipated this project will be completed at the end of October 2020, subject to weather conditions.
