Resource Recovery Centre

Most waste materials that do not fit or cannot be placed in your existing bin system can be taken to Ballina's Resource Recovery Centre.

All vehicles are weighed in and out of the Resource Recovery Centre and waste materials are charged on a weight per category basis. This makes it more cost effective for visitors. On arrival, weighbridge staff will direct you to the appropriate area for your materials.

TIP: Sort your load and save!

To ensure you are charged the cheapest rates, make sure you sort your items into waste, recyclable and FREE drop-off items. You may be required to go over the weighbridge twice to differentiate free, fixed price and fee-based materials.

Along with items intended for the Salvage Shed, there are many items that can be recycled for free or for a reduced fee compared to mixed waste, including:

  • scrap metals
  • computer and TV accessories
  • mixed recyclables (glass, steel and aluminium cans, hard plastic containers, paper and cardboard)
  • cardboard boxes
  • green waste
  • household problem waste in the Community Recycling Centre

We DO NOT accept:
Chemicals and hazardous waste, needles and sharps, asbestos, fuel.

Contact the Resource Recovery Centre for disposal options or find information here. Illegal disposal of these items can lead to fines up to $1million.

Building Waste Drop Off

The Resource Recovery Centre has a separate drop off area for builders waste.

Builders waste items can often be reused or recycled. The Ballina Resource Recovery Centre charges less for disposing of builders waste that is sorted by type BEFORE you come to our site.

This includes:

  • all scrap metal
  • white goods (fridges, freezers, washing machines, air conditioners, etc)
  • bricks, concrete, roof tiles, ceramics
  • green waste, tree stumps and logs
  • hazardous materials (gas bottles, batteries, fire extinguishers, aerosols, motor & other oils)
  • recyclables (drink bottles and cans, paper)
  • cardboard

Our tip? Set up bins/buckets for different waste streams on your job site (drink containers, screws/nails, hazardous materials, cardboard, plastic packaging and general waste). Bring them into the Resource Recovery Centre so you can easily dispose of them in the correct spots. Make it even easier by sorting your trailer load into these categories:

  • Recycling (bottles & cans, clean paper & cardboard)
  • Hazardous waste
  • Metal waste
  • Green waste
  • Builders waste (concrete, bricks, tile)
  • Mixed waste for landfill (treated timber, broken items, plastic wrapping)
