Kingsford Smith Reserve Master Plan

Kingsford Smith Reserve is one of Ballina’s major sporting and recreation precincts. It includes:

  • Kingsford Smith Park
  • Commemoration Park
  • Missingham Park.

Located at the junction of the Richmond River and North Creek, these open spaces are naturally beautiful and scenic. However, some of the facilities in Kingsford Smith Reserve are ageing and need to be replaced or renovated to bring them up to current accessibility or inclusivity standards.

Ballina Shire Council has received funds as part of an election commitment from The Hon. Ben Franklin and the Office of Sport, to upgrade some facilities at Kingsford Smith Park to meet the requirements of a regional sporting facility. To ensure this upgrade aligns with a broader vision for the precinct, Council has engaged a consultant to prepare:

  • A master plan for the broader Kingsford Smith Reserve area, and
  • Concept designs for the three individual precincts (Kingsford Smith Park, Commemoration Park and Missingham Park).

Community Feedback

Council recently conducted a survey to understand the community’s future needs, ideas and aspirations for the reserve. This survey has now closed. The survey and engagement results will be presented at a future Council meeting. There will also be further opportunities for the community to provide feedback when the master plan goes on public exhibition.
