Intersection Upgrade - Main St and The Avenue, Alstonville

Ballina Shire Council will commence the next stage of the Main Street and The Avenue Intersection Upgrade in Alstonville from Monday 8 July 2024.

The first stage completed in April included adjustment of the existing water main.

Works will now continue throughout the July school holidays and are expected to be completed by late July 2024 (weather and site conditions permitting).

Funded by the NSW Government’s Get NSW Active program, this upgrade will provide a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists. New shared paths have already been constructed, which coupled with upcoming works will improve accessibility to the Alstonville CBD and the visual amenity.

The upgrade will include:

  • New pedestrian crossing with street lighting at The Avenue
  • Raised and asphalt road surface
  • New kerb and gutter
  • Stormwater and drainage upgrades
  • Extended median strip along Main Street to improve vehicle turning lines
  • New accessible carparking space
  • Landscaping.

What to expect during the July School Holidays:

  • Access to businesses will be maintained. Businesses will be consulted if disruptions to driveway access are required.
  • To minimise the impact on properties and motorists and complete the works as quickly as possible, work hours will be extended on Saturdays. Work hours will be Monday to Friday 7am - 5pm, and Saturdays 8am – 3pm. No work will take place on Sunday and Public Holidays.
  • Main Street will be closed in front of 61 Main Street from Monday 8 July until the end of the July school holidays. Motorists will need to detour via Daley Street.
  • Following this, The Avenue may close at the intersection with Main Street from the end of the July School Holidays until the end of project works, if required due to weather and site condition delays. Motorists will need to access The Avenue via Daley Street and take a U-turn at the end of The Avenue. Main Street will remain open during this time.
  • A temporary small construction compound will be established in The Avenue parking lane adjacent to 59 Main Street

Council apologises for any inconvenience and thanks for the community for their patience during this intersection upgrade.
