Register your pet

Registering your cat or dog is a requirement in NSW (under the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998). In NSW, registration is for life and is a three-step process:

  1. Microchip your cat or dog by 12 weeks of age or before being sold or given away
  2. Register your cat or dog prior to 12 weeks of age
  3. Desex your dog by six months of age and your cat by four months of age for discounted lifetime registration fees.

Register your pet in person

You can also register your pet in person at Council's Customer Service Centre. When registering in person, you must bring records showing proof of ownership, microchip number and desexing certificate supplied by vet and pay a registration fee.

How to transfer pet registration from another State

If you have moved from interstate, you will need to complete a NSW lifetime registration process in person at Council's Customer Service Centre and pay a registration fee. Please bring records showing proof of ownership and microchip number (paperwork such as pedigree papers, registered club membership and desexing certificate showing the microchip number and name of owner may be suitable).
