NSW Electoral Commission manages the Local Government election for Ballina Shire Council.

Candidate Briefing Sessions

Gain a comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities and commitments involved by attending our Pre-election Candidate Briefing Sessions.

Led by Local Government NSW, these sessions will equip you with essential insights to make informed decisions about candidacy. Key focus areas include; understanding the importance of local government; clarifying the roles of council and councillors; explaining council structures and challenges; highlighting the significance of diverse representation; providing guidance on speaking out confidently; explaining meeting procedures and support resources.

How can I check what roll I am on?

You can check your residential enrolment at check.aec.gov.au or by calling the AEC on 13 23 26

Non-residential Roll

To be on the roll of non-resident owners of rateable land, you must be:

  • the sole owner of the rateable land, or
  • nominated as the elector by the joint or several owners of the rateable land, or
  • nominated as the elector by the corporation or trustees who own the rateable land, or
  • the lessee of the land from the Crown and the land is rateable Crown land.

To be on the roll of occupiers and rate-paying lessees, you must be:

  • the sole occupier or ratepaying lessee of rateable land, or
  • nominated as the elector by the joint or several occupiers or ratepaying lessees of the rateable land, or
  • nominated as the elector by the corporation or trustees who occupy or are the ratepaying lessee of the rateable land,
  • and have the legal right to occupy the land, or be responsible for paying all or part of the rates on the land for 3 years following the date you apply to be on the roll.

To apply for inclusion on the roll of non-resident owners of rateable land or the roll of occupiers and ratepaying lessees for Ballina Shire, complete the applicable form below and return to Ballina Shire Council. The General Manager will advise you within 7 days if your enrolment was accepted. Applications close Monday 5 August 2024.
