Wardell Street Trees

Following a submission from the Wardell and District Progress Association, Council resolved to implement a Street Tree Planting Program for Wardell.

The program involved avenue street planting in Carlisle and Cedar Streets west of the Pacific Highway, and Fitzroy and Sinclair Streets east of the Pacific Highway.

Council staff made an arboricultural and utility assessment to propose a selection of suitable street trees with a range of size, habit and colouration. The specific species have been assessed as fitting to the streetscape, around existing vegetation, underground and overhead service constraints.

A total of 59 street trees have been planted. Half of the street trees were planted in 2021, with the remaining half planted in 2022 by Council staff. Small saplings of the respective tree species were planted, staked, mulched and watered until established.

The selected tree species now help improve the amenity and biodiversity of the Wardell township, while also providing a range of additional environmental, economic, social and psychological benefits.

Residents have been asked to assist with watering trees outside their houses and can contact Council so overwatering does not occur.
