In partnership with Transport NSW, Council employs a Road Safety Officer to deliver the local road safety program.

The State Government is the authority for setting and reviewing speed limits on all state, regional and local roads in NSW. The Centre for Road Safety uses feedback submitted by the public, along with crash data and other road safety engineering information, to prioritise the roads that need a speed zone review.

Ballina Shire Council has no authority to enforce the laws against speeding, hooning or other driving behaviour that is not compliant with the road rules. This authority is held by NSW Police, and patterns of unsafe driver behaviour should be reported to local police.
